Výbor z latinské duchovní poezie, který vychází pod názvem Vexilla regis (Korouhve královské), obsahuje výběr z nejznámějších poetických textů, které vznikaly v církevním prostředí v rozmezí od 4. do 13. století a s postupným rozšiřováním působnosti církve ovlivňovaly kulturní ovzduší nejprve v Evropě a pak i v celém světě. Některé z těchto textů se staly podstatnou součástí evropského kulturního dědictví a byly také často zhudebňovány (např. Stabat mater nebo Dies irae). Latina, která byla do poloviny minulého století jazykem vzdělanců, byla dříve přístupna většímu množství lidí, ale dnes se stává její znalost poněkud exkluzivní.
