Excelentní kolorista Jiří Sopko patří ke generaci autorů, která nastupovala na konci šedesátých let a po nadvládě geometrické abstrakce vrátila do českého umění lidskou figuru a zájem o jeho život. Pro sedmdesátá a osmdesátá léta snad v českém umění neexistuje autor, který by tuto dobu charakterizoval lépe než on. Jeho tvorba v sobě skrývá veškerou absurditu a tragikomičnost doby, aniž by se uchylovala k přímým politickým obsahům. Rozsáhlý katalog, doprovázející velkou retrospektivní výstavu v Galerii hlavního města Prahy,je uveden studií Marie Judlové, v níž autorka podrobně sleduje jeho vývoj, inspirační zdroje (Ensor, Hockney, Antes) i jednotlivé fáze tvorby. Fotografická část obsahuje celostránkové reprodukce zásadních Sopkových děl ze všech období jeho tvorby. English An outstanding colourist Jiří Sopko belongs to the generation of the authors who made their start in the late 1960s and after the domination of geometric abstraction brought back into the Czech art a human figure and an interest in its life. There is no other Czech author in the 1970s and 1980s that could describe that period with such a precision. His work expresses all the absurdity and grotesquerie of those days without any need for direct and explicit political content.The comprehensive catalogue, attending a large retrospective exhibition held in the The Gallery of the Capital of Prague, is introduced by a preface by Marie Judlová, in which she surveys the author’s development, his sources of inspiration (Ensor, Hockney, Antes) and succesive phases of his work. The photographs include the full-page reproductions of Sopek’s fundamental works from all periods of his work. Deutsch Der exzellente Kolorist Jiří Sopko gehört zu der Autorengeneration, die Ende 60-er Jahre kam und die nach der herrschenden geometrischen Abstraktion die menschliche Figur und das Interesse für das menschliche Leben in die tschechische Kunst wieder brachte. Ein anderer Autor könnte die tschechische Kunst der 70-er und 80-er Jahre kaum besser repräsentieren. Seine Schöpfung trägt in sich die ganze Absurdität und Tragikomik der Epoche, ohne jedoch direkte politische Aussage zur Hilfe zu nehmen. Die Einleitung dieses umfassenden Katalogs, der eine große retrospektive Ausstellung der Galerie der Hauptstadt Prag begleitet, stammt von Marie Judlová, die sich hier der künstlerischen Entwicklung, den Inspirationsquellen (Ensor, Hockney, Antes) und einzelnen Schöpfungsperioden des Autorsim Detail widmet.
